Today’s song was introduced to me by Mr. Williams, my high school music teacher, who demanded rapt attention, as he played for the class the fine music he expected us to be able to identify as well as appreciate in the future.
He was quite strict, and any horseplay, conversationally, from someone in his audience would eventually also be introduced to a wooden xylophone mallet, flung by him at the forehead of the offender.
Today, I am humming Berlioz Roman Carnival Overture. Wow is it good! I think this may be the version of the Sidney Symphony version where the second violin accidentally knocks her cigarette out of its ashtray, onto the floor, where it rolls under the bassoon, who thought she had inadvertently played her instrument too fast and ignited it.
Hilarious!
Hit her with a xylophone hammer.
