Unintended consequences of automatic self-writing stories

I have spoken previously of my system for writing stories in which I give them free rein to develop themselves without my constant help. It has been a blessing for my creative endeavors.
Last night, according to my new system, I came up with a couple of new first lines to potential stories just before I went to bed and to a night of deep and peaceful sleep.
I was resting well, happy with the knowledge that soon I would have two shiny, new stories to publish. My sleep did not last the entire night, however.
A noise woke me before my alarm clock had the chance to do so. I had to go investigate.
I found one of my new stories going through my wallet, looking for who knows what. I was disappointed, to say the least.
This does add a whole new dimension to my writing process. We have a protocol for when a story wrecks and needs some extra help, but we never even considered ending up with delinquents among our group.
It was my desire to use my place as a ranch where I could raise my stories to a marketable point, and not the home of a rough crowd, shunned by many. Its future however may not be in my hands any more than the stories that proliferate there.
