I forget where we had been that afternoon. We had some projects to do as a family. so baby daughters, wife, and I were in our car heading home.
An off-the-cuff idea occurred to us as we happened to pass one of the popular, large pizza restaurants.
Let’s grab a pizza!
“Let’s grab a pizza and take it home with us to enjoy!”
“Great idea!” We were all in agreement and pretty excited since we didn't usually eat out too much.
We waited in line for a while until we got to the point to give our order. We ordered a huge and tasty deluxe pie to go. Our mouths were watering already.
“I’m afraid we're out of the dough that makes the crust right now. It's on the way from DesMoines, but I can't make you the regular pie at this time.”
Bowl of pizza
I suppose we could have ordered a bowl of tomato sauce and pepperoni slices, but it just didn't seem as though it would be the same.
I have never before nor after had that happen at that or any other pizza restaurant again. But that night was certainly a disappointment for my family.
That is actually the worry I have when I am trying to be patient and wait for publications to print some of my stories.
Medium drive-thru
I see somebody pull into Medium, his mind set on getting him some fresh Don Martin stories, and I have to tell him I have some waiting to be published, but I have no fresh ones at this time. I can give you a couple of sentences to tide you over…
I can just see that readers' tail lights leaving in a cloud of dust, driving over to
Zulie Rane’s place to get something fresh.
“But wait, but wait…” I cried, but the moment is lost.
Sorry, but that’s just the way we serious writers are.
Thank you for your time.
