Welcome to The “Little Hotel California.”
You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave.

On Wednesday, April 30, I broke my leg. Not my whole leg, but only my left fibula.
I must tell you at this point that I have a condition known as Multiple Sclerosis, which causes me to wobble when I walk, probably a condition that contributed to my falling off my four-and-a-half-inch porch step while I was trying to step down to go to Saint Peggy’s car.
Actually, my left shoe sole caught on the step and never would move, so I sat down hard with my knee popping and bent at a most acute angle.
The EMTs transported me to a nearby hospital.
After an appropriate amount of arm-flapping, an X-ray was taken, and a nurse came to me to tell me she had good news and bad news, with the bad news being that my leg was broken, and the good being that it would probably not require surgery.
I thought she was kidding, because I had experienced broken legs before, and they were nothing like this.
The hospital put a straight-line velcro cast over my knee and told me to see their orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible about the surgery part, but he was booked for two more weeks.
So they sent me to Little Hotel California for PT and skilled nursing care.
I finally saw the orthopedic surgeon after the two weeks, and he gave me clearance to wear a smaller brace and get back to my life. But LHC didn’t seem to care.
But THC continued without releasing me for an additional two caged-animal weeks of physical therapy. They told us to leave earlier, would either cause our health insurance to be cancelled for any future claims, or not to pay our bill so far for LHC.
