The answer is yes, you can write and publish a story on Medium under an alias. Medium allows writers to create a pen name, also known as a “Medium display name,” which will be displayed publicly instead of your real name.
To create a pen name or display name on Medium, follow these steps.
Sign in to your Medium account and go to your profile page.
Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select “Settings.”
Scroll down to the “Medium display name” section and click on “Edit.”
Enter your desired pen name and click on “Save.”
Once you have created your pen name, you can use it to publish stories on Medium. When you publish a story, your pen name will be displayed as the author, and your real name will remain private.
I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that Medium has community guidelines that prohibit certain types of content, including hate speech, harassment, and spam. Be sure to review these guidelines before publishing any content on the platform.
Can you use an alias for one story and go back to your own name later?
Yes, you can use a pen name for one story on Medium and then switch back to using your real name for future stories. Medium allows you to change your display name at any time, so you can easily switch back and forth between using your real name and a pen name.
To switch between using your real name and a pen name, simply follow the steps provided earlier to edit your Medium display name. You can enter a different name to use as your pen name, or switch it back to your real name.

How about on your stats page?
On your stats page on Medium, you can choose to display either your real name or your pen name. To do this, simply go to your stats page and click on “Settings” in the top right corner. Then, under “Name,” you can choose whether to display your real name or your Medium display name (pen name) on your stats page.
Keep in mind that your stats page will only display your public statistics, such as the number of views, reads, and claps your stories have received. It will not display any private information, such as your email address, pictures of your ex-girlfriend, or other personal details.
