Two types
The last time I ran in a 5 k race, I noticed there were two types of runners.
Of course, we runners hang out and talk to each other a good bit. We frequent runner-bars and tell tales.
In my recent runs, I noticed there seemed to be two types of runners. One liked to concentrate on the finish line. They weren’t particularly in love with what they were doing, but visualizing or seeing the finish line made it a little easier. Hills were no good.
The other type of runner just loved to be seen running. They constantly watched the people who lined the streets, looking for someone they knew, or just soaking up the admiration from them.
Fiction writers fall into two groups too. Non-fiction writers have something to get said. Their finish line is wherever they finish.
Fiction writers simply have nothing better to do. They ramble on and on, enjoying the view and the run, until they cross some finish line. They like to have written, better than writing.
So for all of us fiction writers, let’s recall the different finish lines, if that will help. They are classified into different lengths based on word count. Here’s a breakdown of the most common classifications.
