It so happens I have a medical condition that affects my gait and balance.
I’ve had it for years and choose not to let it ruin my life.
I do what I call “wall walking,” In the last couple of years, I have started using a cane most of the time to be safe from falling.
After some oral surgery and anesthetic lately, I was so weak I tried using a walker. It was great!
Now, six or so weeks later, I have lost a good deal of the leg strength and balance I used to have.
So, I must point out that this walking aid can be a blessing, but it can also do the opposite of what you expect. Instead of relying on my legs, with the cane for balance, I would push down on the walker with my hands, thus effectively reducing the load my legs were carrying. Muscles apparently don’t take long to get lazy.
Now that I have realized the unintended consequences of my walker, I have returned to my cane, and, though sore, my legs are feeling better already!
There is a comment section here if you have had any experiences with them!
