Good morning!
This morning is a good time for us to think about writing.
Why do people write?
I’m thinking there are three reasons someone would write.
For yourself.
For others
For money
You can do the first in complete solitude.
To include the other two, and therefore the whole picture, you must have readers, too.
We have to write in such a way as to attract readers. They need to enjoy reading our stuff.
I don’t want to attract people as to a car wreck, so the reader is aggravated. They would read once or twice, decide you are a nut job, and not continue to read you.
You give them what they want and continue to get more readers.
Give them what you think they need, and you wonder where all the readers are. You can give readers what they need to hear without being belligerent. Your story and tone itself can keep most readers reading your works even if they disagree with you.
Circle of truth?
As long as you are honest. I never recommend lying to get readers or to keep readers. I heard someone say we are each given our own circle (of listeners) and we are no more supposed to be false in order to gain/keep listeners than we are to be shy in speaking the truth to them.
If indeed, we are put here to communicate to our group of people, it may well be that it is also our responsibility to discover what our message is to be, what our method is to be, and possibly to increase the number of those who hear what we have to say.
Thanks for listening to my ramblings!
