START WITH THANKS
Even before I slurp down some coffee.
Before I turn on the news.
Before the world floods in with noise and demands.
I try to pause for a minute.
I thank God for showing up again, even though He never leaves me.
I thank my body, however wobbly or weird it feels this morning, for showing up with me, breathing.
I give thanks for the soft things: pillows, quiet moments, whispers.
I give thanks for the hard things, too, broken bones, and failures of any description, because they each taught me something.
And I thank the people—near and far, known and unknown—who make the world a little better, even when it’s still messy.
I don’t always do this perfectly.
Some mornings I may forget.
Some mornings I even grumble before I’m grateful.
But when I remember?
The day starts softer. Easier.
And sometimes, that’s all it takes.
thanks,
