I would be willing to bet Iโm a lot like most of you in that it seems as though once I get to my desk and begin my โotherโ job, everything breaks loose.
Sometimes, as hard as I try, I just canโt break away and get back to writing, be it a Medium story or the great American Novel. Then thereโs also Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to promote it.
Write First
So I have found that if I work on the writing first, for at least an hour, I can get more of it done than in any other hour period during the day. Even if I have to get up a little earlier than I normally would.
That leaves other open times to be grabbed and used for my writing after I have put food on the table.
Tasks Later
If I jump into another task before writing, that seems to diminish the chances that I will do it that day at all.
Yes, I am blessed with the type of job where there is no boss looking over my shoulder. That would make it even harder. Instead, I have customers looking over my shoulder, and they want me to work on their accounts especially.
Conclusion
So, if I can get a bit of my writing behind me early before the hair-on-fire people find me, weโre all better off. Donโt let the urgent supersede the important.
Thanks!
