Money Links In Your Medium Stories

The story is as old as the hills.
You will not get rich in the partner program, at least in the beginning.
It’s like a shrimp dinner. It takes a mess of shrimp to make a dinner.
Therefore we have three useful link types we can add to our stories.
1) A link to our own mailing list.
Best subtle. Best related to the story and/or the author. Probably at the end.
2) A link to another one of our own stories.
Best if relevant. They can increase our reading time.
3) A link to a product.
Our own product that we have produced and sell, such as a book or course.
Or a vendor, who will pay us a commission if the reader goes to look at, and then buys a product or service. Make it related to the story.
This leads us to one more caveat.
Amazon does not allow us to email something with a link of theirs on it, so strictly speaking, if you are an Amazon associate, you probably should not mail out a story of yours that has any Amazon links in it.
You could mail out a newsletter with a link pointing to that story that has links, but not mail out the story itself to your subscribers.
Wiggle room.
Whether we are talking about Amazon or Medium, their instructions seem, to me at least, to be less than precise, with a bit of interpretive wiggle room. The weasel words will give us a little room. And they can change anytime.
We must observe the spirit of the law if not the letter of it. I guess the takeaway is “all things in moderation” and “don’t do anything stupid.”
They’re all OK in moderation, done with taste, and not mailed. Except for links to other medium stories, I usually keep mine at the bottom of my story.
Thanks for reading!
