Monday's Journal
Starting Week 42 of 2024
Today’s entry depends on certain premises.
I’m a writer.
I live a writer’s life.
You care.
Well, thanks for caring.
Good morning!
Once again I have spent a great deal of time trying to define the actual purpose of this Substack, and I guess this about the best it’s going to get for now.
This is going to be an informal area where I can talk to my readers and point them toward pieces of my latest work with a free pass.
I will be writing some books here, a chapter at a time.
This area will produce a newsletter about my classic author site (DonMartinBooks.com) and will help direct people to that site. I will put the beginnings of Medium stories here to encourage more reading of them.
I will not be teaching anything here, but I do have other areas where I give writing tips. I will make some of my books available here.
There will be ways to support me even though subscriptions are free because even authors have to buy groceries.
Therefore the purpose of this publication is not to make a KILLING as some others are, but rather to make a LIVING by increasing my exposure and readership.
In fact, some say this is turning into more of an autobiography. If that it the case, three or four of you out there, and you know who you are, might consider REALLY supporting my works. Large numbers with lots of zeros always make my memory fuzzy.
Thanks!
It has been a crazy holiday weekend full of frivolity and partying with my family and the squibs.
This is indeed a new chapter of my life.
My old life used to be based on income from the articles, and the stories I have written. And I have written almost 1100 at this point. They work some. Mostly in their youth, but some continue to work on and on, bringing me a little money each month.
I have written pieces in Medium, Newsbreak, Quora, and several publications, in addition to penning a few books.
You know, writing for the sake of writing.
My new direction will point more toward books. Microbooks, to be precise. They have become more popular and profitable than other books. Check some out here.
My subsequent articles will no longer be self-serving, as I am, but, rather, they will show readers exciting glimpses at, and directions to, my books. In the process, I will be trying very hard to assemble my list of readers in one place, instead of letting them be spread out on different platforms. That way, when a new book comes out, I can email one note instead of six or eight. I have also noticed, on some of the platforms, there is more and more control and censorship of sorts, so best to get away from all that.
All frivolity aside, my sign-off will include, most importantly, where you can find a book or books of mine, and where you can join us in our quest for literary freedom.
Thank you so much for reading!
