Medium Writers Make More When You Hit the Envelope Icon
I wish I could send a special note to my followers about this. Thanks SO much for being one!

If a reader is already a follower of your Medium account, they might wonder why they should also become a subscriber. Here is some confusion about the subject. Reasons you may be told that are incorrect are โexclusive contentโ and โearly access.โ These are great things and can, indeed, be found with some writers, but currently on an โoff-platformโ basis only and are not a part of Mediumโs promise to you.
What subscribing will do are the following.
Support for the writer. By becoming a subscriber, readers are directly supporting the writer and helping them to continue creating content. This support can be especially meaningful for independent writers who rely on their readership for income. As a previous story related, it can make a difference in a writerโs income without expense to readers.
More frequent updates. When someone subscribes to their stories, they will be notified every time they publish a new one. This means that theyโll be able to read the stories as soon as theyโre published without having to search for them or wait for them to appear in their feed.
Personalized recommendations. Medium subscribers get more personalized recommendations based on their reading history and preferences. This means that your stories are more likely to be recommended to people who are interested in reading them.
The difference in the number of feed notifications
In some places, I am told there is no difference in the percentage of feed notifications that are sent to followers versus subscribers on Medium. They are all in your feed.
Others say there is a huge difference. Itโs important to take into account that the contents of your feed are also determined by your interests and not just the writers you follow.
Both followers and subscribers will receive notifications in their Medium feed when a writer they follow or subscribe to publishes a new article. If you really enjoy a writer, you need to go check your feed daily.
No email notification
If you follow a writer on Medium but donโt subscribe to them, you will receive notifications of their new stories in your Medium feed, but you wonโt receive email notifications. Email notifications are only sent to subscribers who have opted-in to receive them.
What is my medium feed?
Your Medium feed is the stream of articles or content that appears on your Medium home page. It includes articles from writers and publications that you follow, as well as articles recommended for you by Mediumโs algorithm based on your reading history and preferences.
When you log in to Medium, you are taken to your home page, which displays your feed. You can scroll through the articles in your feed, read them, and engage with them by leaving comments, clapping, or sharing them with others.
Some people rarely see their homepage and feed. It depends on how their computer is set up to go to Medium (i.e., shortcut.)
Your Medium feed is personalized to your interests based on the writers and publications you follow and the topics you engage with on the platform. This makes it a great way to discover new writers and articles that you might be interested in, but not the best way to be certain of seeing anything new from a particular writer.
Thanks for reading!
