WED-Kindle vs. Gumroad vs. Substack- Where should you sell your microbooks?
You’ve written your book. Now, where’s the best place to sell it?

Let’s look at a comparison of the three platforms.
Why does choosing the right platform matter? I have written a couple of books. When I wrote my first book, I was floating on cloud nine. It was probably one of my last thoughts about where to sell it. I wrote it, and automatically offered it on KDP Amazon. I made it a paperback, as well.
I was able to do all that under one roof. I believe I had someone at Fiverr do my cover and my formatting. Those items cost me a few bucks, but I was so proud, I didn’t think about it at the time.
I could choose the ratio of profit as well as my price. I put the book on KDP Select and got five free days in the first 90 days. The ability to run promotions is offset by the fact the book must be offered exclusively at am Amazon. In addition, Amazon would do some additional marketing by offering my book in groups to new buyers.
I got so excited, that I wrote another book and another.
Eventually, I discovered Gumroad, where they demand no exclusivity of my books. They also collect the email addresses of buyers for me, where Amazon would never dream of doing that.
Now I have the choice. Amazon where my books present an impression of professionalism and get promoted a bit with Amazon’s own huge audience.
Gumroad is a place where I have to bring my own audience with links from my blog, Substack, Medium, or social sites.
The trick is to use the one that makes sense to you. As I wrote more books, (now it’s around 40) I experiment. Some do better with different sites. I haven’t been working with Gumroad too long, but they seem great so far.
It is free to establish your business with either, so the big difference is having to bring your own buyers to Gumroad, but getting the email list and KDP bringing customers to you, but not telling you where you can find them in the future.
In any event, always put a link to it on any and all of your stories and articles, whether it be at the end or in the normal flow of the text.
