Sorry! I wrote too much.
New Writers Can Get a Couple of Thousand Followers
My first goal was a hundred followers to be in the partner program.
I was so busy reading how to get them and watching my stats page, I didn’t take notes or screenshots, so I can’t tell you scientifically and provably how I did it.
I did it.
I pulled out a handful of my old blog posts and penned a few more. I found kind editors and publications, and I was off to the races. To teach me that Medium was a social platform, I believe my first article required me to mention a couple of other writers in my story.
Also,
helped me so much in Illumination, for which I am so grateful. I don’t think it took but a month or two to have a hundred people see my stories and wonder about me enough to follow me.
Two Non-negotiable Things A Medium Writer Must Do To Be Successful
The lowest common denominator to get out of the soup line.
I look to simplify things every chance I get.
“Reduce to the ridiculous,” some call it. But we take the ingredients individually. Then when we mix them and heat them, we have cake.
If the cake is the result you are after, the first things needed are the ingredients. I’ll break them down individually soon.
Ingredients for Medium Success.

For Money, New Writers Absolutely Must Write. A Lot.
Why do writers need to write?
Writers have to write.
Writing is a craft that requires not only the act of putting words down on paper or into the computer, but also involves planning, revising, and editing. Writers engage in the entire process of crafting a piece of work, which includes the idea, outline, research, and editing.
Much of a writer’s work happens in the writer’s mind. Thinking, observing, and reflecting are all aspects of the writing process. Writers often spend time mulling over ideas, considering character development, and contemplating plot points before physically starting to write.
Living life, having experiences, and interacting with the world are important for a writer. These experiences often become the part of their stories and influence the authenticity of their writing.
Identifying as a writer is more than just the act of writing at any given moment. It also encompasses a deep connection to the written word, storytelling, and the ability to communicate through written language.

Why write?
For my work, I do a lot of writing, as well as operating a state-wide real estate FSBO website where sellers can still have their house in the MLS for relatively tiny amounts of money.
Occasionally, I have the opportunity to speak with new online writers about their writing.
Writing is not terribly difficult to do, but sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated.
Why anyone writes is quite varied, person to person.
Some write for the fun of it.
Some write, thinking they are going to make money.
The problem happens when the money or the fun stops or never happens.
For Money, New Writers Absolutely Must Get Eyes on their Writing. A Lot of Eyes.
And Schmooze. A Lot. Here are some tips.
Submit to publications.
Increased Visibility- Medium publications often have established audiences. By submitting your story to a publication, you can tap into that audience and increase the visibility of your work.
Exposure to Different Audiences- Submitting to various publications exposes your work to different audiences. This diversity can help you understand what resonates with readers and refine your writing style accordingly.
Increase your followers.
More Increased Visibility- When you publish a new story on Medium, it is initially shared with your followers. This can lead to increased visibility for your work, as your followers receive notifications and see your stories in their Medium feeds.
Building an Audience- Followers are essentially your audience on Medium. Over time, as you publish more content, you have the opportunity to build a dedicated readership. Followers are more likely to engage with and share your work, helping you reach a broader audience. For Money, New Writers Absolutely Must Get Eyes on their Writing. A Lot of Eyes.
