I love to whittle it down and reduce it to the ridiculous.

Years ago, I asked my first real estate broker/boss what I needed to be doing to make some real money.
I had received a couple of pity-splits of commission with a seasoned agent since I got my license, but I was excited and hungry for more. It took quite a while to earn my license, and now I was ready to kick it up a notch or two.
I sat down with the broker in his office one quiet morning and asked him if there was something more I should be doing to start my real estate career. I told him I was attending open houses, and I had my business cards printed- even gave out a couple… I will never forget his answer.
He told me “You’ve paid your dues, now just wait.”
I soon realized that I hadn’t paid any dues and that this guy surely didn’t seem to have a clue what dues were himself.
I spent years making very little money in real estate until somebody described to me the system that if I talk to x number of people, I will find y number of people who may be interested in selling their house.
Then, when I gather enough Ys, one will sell their house through me. S after I kept track of my numbers enough to see what they were, I knew how many people I had to talk to before I got some business.
I could, for instance, know that if it takes 20 people before I find a prospect, and I’ve only talked to eighteen, I know exactly what I need to do.
That process works for many goal-oriented occupations, and writing is one. Admittedly it’s easier to float along, thinking you will bump into a success cloud soon, but realistically, if you are serious about making money writing, you need to find out what you need to do step by step, and then start doing just that!
