Good day, my friends!
I am so blessed that you are here! It is, indeed, a wonderful feeling.
For so many to find my rambling style of writing and random sense of humor inoffensive enough to read and almost enjoy, is tremendous in my view.
My friends, of course, consist of peeps and buds.
Peeps are casual followers on Medium, Twitter, and other places.
My buds are a closer group of subscribers at Medium, Substack, or anywhere that is not dependent on the platform itself to let us communicate.
For instance, Facebook can decide to make a change in its algorithms, and POOF! You may no longer exist, or I may no longer exist. So a platform like this one is much more practical and valuable to both of us.
Publications such as this one have no restrictive rules and policies that may muzzle a creator. Any subject is fair game.
I don’t like to miss anything I am expecting.
Anyway, here’s where we are right now in my journalistic architecture.
My daily mutterings/journal section will likely be posted daily. POSTED. To this area, or blog, whatever you wish to call it. It won’t be emailed to your crowded mailbox except once or twice a week, Fridays, for certain, and occasionally during the first part of the week, too.
But even on Thursday, if you had the notion, you could click on the site and read any other day’s post in its entirety. (As long as it was completed- some journal entries may be completed in a couple of steps that day.)
On Friday’s edition that will be emailed to you, there will be links for your convenience, to posts you may not have already read.
This publication is being completed, tweaked, and perfected as we go, such is my style, so any help or suggestions will be great!
Part of the purpose behind this Substack is to allow me to write and publish daily to give my writing that OUTLIERS (Amazon link) advantage of actually becoming good. Like practicing the piano. you can read them here, but they won’t be mailed to you.
MY NEWSLETTER UPDATE
This is a newsletter about three things.
It is about my writing for those peeps who seem to enjoy my writing for some reason. You are a blessing to me. Some would like to know a little more about a writer’s life. I have augmented my income from the sale of my books and some from writing for Medium.com when people join. I do have some digital products available, and I am working on this Substack, and it will someday make me some money.
Of course, as a real estate broker for 38 years, I do still run a website providing the MLS entry for FOR-SALE-BY-OWNERS. I love offering that service and working with the people who have become my customers and friends. That real estate site is right here, www.mlsDon.com and it is a full-time job, doing the listing part. but obviously, I love it or I would not have done it for so many years.
Folks are always asking for pointers on how they might do the same, so helping them is part of what this publication is all about. I will chronicle my progress and help others do the same. I may be only a couple of years ahead of a lot of my readers, but we’ll take this trip together. As I worked the last forty years, I never realized that life could be like this. It’s great now, however!
We will examine writing to get paid from a couple of different places, writing books, having a blog, or a newsletter like this one, and maybe making a video or e-course. These projects are, together, how I get paid for, and how people support my creativity.
Part of this report will concern building the number of subscribers to this publication. Most of it is free, of course, but some parts concerning writing will be published for paid subscribers only, encouraging you to sign up for a small fee to work with parts that can be profitable for you.
If you are getting this newsletter now, you are among the early group of readers from the start, and I thank you. I have changed email platforms a couple of times looking for a perfect combination and have not gone out seeking subscribers until now.
My next goal is 500 readers, so I guess I will have to work harder at this. It seems my life has always been driven by goals. That gets things done. At least with me.
This letter is all free now, and changes will be gradual this coming year.
Thanks,
-don
TODAY’S SONG IN MY HEAD
MY REAL-LIFE WRITER’S LIFE
Not only am I a big-time writer, but also a poster boy for Murphy’s law. In keeping with that, this morning I woke up and it was Saturday. I love Saturdays!
PJ always fixes a Jimmy Dean croissant with sausage and cheese, and nothing else starts me off for the day like a good breakfast treat and coffee.
But this morning early, PJ came back into the bedroom and announced that the coffee maker was inop. YIKES! She graciously made a trip to Dave’s daughter’s place and brought back a couple of big cups of their coffee.
I’m on top of the world now.
It’s time to pound around in this computer for a while, eat some nachos, or these nachos, and watch an SEC football game. Life is good. I do have the order to list a home in Monteagle, and one in Christiana, TN that I will be working on during the game because I don’t think I will be expecting the grands to visit today like they do frequently.
And of course writing, for me, is best begun early, like now.
I am nothing if not a creature of habit. I find if I don’t create good habits, the bad ones will create themselves.

Keep those questions coming, and tell your remaining friends about us!
Remember, this newsletter is completely free! If you ever begin to feel guilty about being such a taker and not a giver, I believe there is a place at the bottom where you can buy me a cup of coffee.
THAT will support the arts!
Thanks,
-don, changing what I can change, laughing at what I can’t.
