I don’t mean to insult anyone’s intelligence, but I personally, like to reduce things to the ridiculous, come up with a formula, and visualize things step by step.
It is true that I have published more than a thousand stories, but that doesn’t always give street creds. occasionally something you learn on the second story is better than what you may discover on the eight-hundredth, your experience is cumulative.
But at this point, there are three homes where I can place my story that I can count on to make money. There are a couple of runner-ups we’ll discuss later, and a couple more we’ll use to direct traffic to these money-making locations.
Medium.
This is the best place to get your feet wet. Join the partner program. Don’t put this off. Start writing as much as you can without disrupting your day.
Substack.
Do this as soon as you can, too. It won’t pay you for your writing per se, but can make you money as people discover you and subscribe to it. You can direct traffic with it, sell subscriptions to it, or use affiliate marketing with it.
KDP. Amazon.
Publish your own books out of a collection of your medium articles, or anything else. There is a lot to unpack, here so we’ll get into that soon.
These can be intertwined with your own websites, Gumroad, direct mail, LinkedIn, Twitter, Quora, and more that will make money, sometimes indirectly, and sometimes directly, which we will cover soon.
But for now, if you start with medium, it is the smoothest entry point. Write stories as frequently as you can, if you bomb out there, work on improving your writing while you seek to find more popular topics.
